Dale Crawford is an IMS Elite Expert and thought leadership contributor with more than thirty years of experience in the insurance industry. His roles in the industry range from extensive involvement in claims and underwriting to management and leadership roles. He served as an officer at two reinsurance companies and as president of an insurance company. Mr. Crawford’s reinsurance experience provided an exceptionally broad view of the industry, dealing with numerous insurance company clients in standard lines, specialties such as home warranties, as well as extensive experience in excess and surplus lines.
In response to numerous insolvencies and disputes across the insurance and reinsurance industries in the late 1980s, Mr. Crawford began providing litigation support in lawsuits and arbitrations. Following the first Gulf War, he also began assisting in damage assessments for post-conflict regions and government entities.
Mr. Crawford also has special niche expertise related to environmental and pollution risks. He served as a reinsurance underwriter working with many insurers as they began developing limitations and exclusions to their policies as pollution hazards began to be addressed in the 1970s.
His deep and broad industry experience and leadership have led Mr. Crawford to be retained as a highly sought expert witness, arbitrator, and umpire in disputes involving environmental, asbestos, pollution, underwriting, and a range of insurance-related issues.
Dale has a M.B.A. degree in finance from the University of Houston, and the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and Associate in Reinsurance designations. He also has extensive training in the arbitration process by ARIAS-US and has been a Certified Arbitrator since 1998, serving on more than thirty panels as arbitrator and umpire in disputes between insurers, reinsurers, managing general agencies, and insureds. He has been retained as an expert witness in court and arbitrations in at least twenty states, testifying from Anchorage to London.
