Caught on Tape: Finding a Video Production Expert
- Services Provided: Expert Witness
When the product you receive is not the product you expected, what is the next step? Some of us contact the supplier to have a broken product fixed. Some ask for a refund for an order mix-up. In this case, IMS assisted in the search for a video production expert to determine whether equipment used in the filming of a promotional video affected the quality of the service provided.
This was a breach of contract dispute. A marketing communications agency was tasked with videotaping sports athletes as part of a promotional video. Athletes were filmed in front of a green screen on which different colored tape was used as markings. The tape was allegedly difficult to remove digitally and jeopardized the product, creating more work post-production. The sports company withheld payment because of this, breaching their contract with the marketing agency.
An internal research team submitted 11 candidates over the course of four business days. The candidates were vetted by an IMS recruiter and included experts in cinematography, video production, virtual reality production, video directing and editing, areal cinematography, green screen production, animation and digital editing, and more.
The candidate chosen had been heavily involved in video production for decades. They worked in the design, implementation, production, and post-production of web shorts, television shows, feature films, and documentaries, among others. The candidate had also been an expert in live-action footage mixed with digitally compositing effects and received multiple awards for their work in this industry.
This case settled.
